Companies For Sale
BACK TO MARKETPLACE
The classic definition of a “Long Tail” company. Over 400, close to 450, titles, I lost count actually. Sales annually of a half dozen of some titles all the way to many hundreds of others. County records, local histories, church information, family name data, it’s all here, of course with a regional Mid Atlantic focus.
The classic definition of a “Long Tail” company.
As part of a larger, more complex business, it has not been completely separated for cost purposes, but we do have revenue and unit sales information that is verified. You may have to figure out what your own operational expenses will be, or we are certainly able to assit you in making this determination, but for each buyer, that is a subjective issue anyway.
Revenues, as a very part time operation, have been in the 60-80K range, got hit in 2008-9 a bit, but have come back nicely in 2010 to pre-economic disaster numbers. Margins are very high.
Marketing has been virtually nil… a bit of promo and push, listings on Amazon, working the titles into eBooks (some are already but 400+ is a big number!), doing the basics… will yield likely a doubling of revenues. The ability to make further strategic alliances in the genealogical field will yield even bigger results. The data in the databases alone has online monetization value and licensing potential.
The numbers are now in… and I have had the opportunity to verify them. The proper asking price is $159,000., with a very likely final selling price in the $140-$145,000 range. Not much room for negotiation, but better to cut it close to start and not hear complaints about too high a price. This is a profitable operation, and in the right hands, could earn out in two years.
I wouldn’t wait…the marketing and monetization potential of this diamond in the rough is substantial. Contact me for more information.
Very part time business, small line of a few titles and ancillary products. In business for a couple decades… author is publisher… materials have become known by reputation… some have sold units in the 10-15K+ range, lead title over 30K… As always, good stuff but lousy marketing… psychologists aren’t publishers, with apologies to this one.
Psychologists aren’t publishers… priced to sell!
Author would be willing to help, do appearances, bolster the works. Is not interested in any down line royalty arrangement or earn out or commission so this is a straight buyout. This, of course, benefits the buyer’s bottom line in the future.
New listing… numbers still coming in… but looks like asking in the $60K range including $15K inventory at cost. Let me know and as the final information comes in, you’ll be the first to have it!
EBook company, with a storied history but sales never matched… so the price is closer to about half value, but as an eBook company, because of the IP assets and technical acuities the firm has acquired for a potential new owner, it is somewhat non-negotiable.
Into the eBook field with tons of technical capacity and background for almost no investment.
A long time eBook company. Over 125 titles, primarily fiction some non fiction, has been in business since the dawn of eBooks, in all formats, wide distribution, owners have been groundbreakers in the field, but have never made much if any money from it. Recently, gross revenues have been growing but still in the teens, profits in single digit thousands… numbers going up every quarter now with iPad and multiple players in the business.
In this company, it is the knowledge, the platforms, the distribution and contacts that have the primary value, not the business itself. New owner will need to be more marketing focused; these people were the tech people. Forget a reasonable way to value what has transpired here and the value of having an entire eBook operation ready to go…
I have set the selling price, not an asking, at $50,000. Real valuation could be double or triple, if you look at having 125+ titles in multiple eBook formats, the technical expertise to adapt to any line of titles, the distribution channels for eBooks in place, and a history of small but profitable operation that can be scaled to any size line.
In addition, they do hard copy/POD on about two dozen or more titles to create additional revenues for those who want hard copies of the works.
I had a number of interested buyers who unfortunately did not understand the real value of the acquisition, and expected this to be a fire sale from the $50K price. It isn’t, and we will wait quietly, and the one person who realizes the intrinsic value of an eBook company will scoop it up for the price and utilize the technology and structure to make a great deal of money adapting their own titles to this program. Waiting on current figures; pricing is in the low six numbers based on 3x profits plus asset values. Slightly negotiable… and as an add-on to an existing company, would be more like 1-1.5x profits at a fair purchase price. Financing will be considered for half of the price over 2-3 years at a nominal interest rate to a solid buyer. Email me on this one.
