We have a client who has successfully begun the process of ‘rolling up’ a number of individual titles, micro-publishers, and directories in the Non Profit field in both the US and Canada.
Materials include Non Profit Management, Volunteer Management & Relations, Fund Raising, Grant Writing, Grant Directories, Online Databases, the Responsibilities and Governance of Non Profit Boards, and materials keeping Non Profits from running afoul of the law. As a fairly new ‘roll up’, this company is looking to expand through the acquisition of other companies, with complementary materials, or through the individual acquisition of lines or titles in these subject areas.
When contacting me, please provide the following information in your package: product samples, narrative of the history of the company/titles, sales history of these titles, endorsements or awards they have received, and your financial expectations. We have a number of clients who are seeking directories, titles that come out monthly, annually or bi-ennially (guides, best of, yearly reviews, etc), and/or reference materials that are updated regularly in editions (first, twelfth, twentieth).
With a company of these materials, your sales price would be at a small premium to market value. Individual titles will sell for full value (less obsolete inventory, of course), even in these discounted times.
An online database function would be a bonus, and if not, the raw data permitting the use/lease/sale of the online database information would be a bonus… assume the buyer is capable of making the conversions… you don’t have to. Of course, if your work gives an opportunity to maintain the currency of the database, a buyer will pay a premium for that functionality.
Specific subjects include Non Profits, Grants and Foundation Awards, Travel Guides, Price Guides, Collectibles, Financial Information, Demographics, Legal, Accounting, or other professional updating services, almost anything that is non fiction and provides an aggregate of information on a regular basis, from months to years.
As well, if you have the database and DO NOT have a hard copy publication, but would be interesting in licensing your database for both online and/or hard copy sales, do let us know that as well.
